Reasons For Eating Raw Food

In an era when people are becoming more health conscious, eating raw food is gaining popularity.

The lifestyle movement toward eating raw foods is called Rawism or Raw Foodism, and it often consists of mostly organic raw foods.

Just the Basics:

The underlying belief behind raw foodism is that by having a greater amount of raw food in one’s diet you can become much, much healthier.

The benefits of raw food depend heavily on what exactly you’re consuming.

Some Raw foodists are strict vegan and consume only plant foods.

Other raw foodists consume animal products, fruits, nuts, eggs, fish, and non-pasturized milk.

Others still eat only a carnivorous diet.

Goals:

The goals of embracing a raw food diet vary from person to person.

Some use it as an effective method for body detox.

Detoxification focuses on returning the liver to a healthier state where it can keep purifying the body. Using raw food for this purpose is generally recommended for everyone who is not in optimal health and wanting to experience health beyond expectation, or if they’re struggling with weight loss.

Speaking of weight loss, that’s another reason people begin raw food diets. A lot of processed food contains things that contribute to fat retention and/or weight gain.

Raw food is natural and filled with nutrients that not only fill you up, but stave off the urge to snack and relieve food cravings.

A third goal in the raw food diet is simply to be healthier.

Many individuals who eat raw food consistently report having more energy and getting sick less frequently. This isn’t surprising since raw food retains more nutrients than cooked items.

It also has a great balance of fiber to keep digestion and your colon in good order.

Benefits of Eating Raw Food

Once your taste buds adjust to raw food you’ll find that it’s very flavorful. That means you won’t need to add flavorings or sweeteners, some of which are very hard on the stomach and digestion. And that’s just the beginning!

Other benefits include:

  • Energy and time savings: Since you’re not cooking, you won’t use as much gas and electric (which shrinks your carbon footprint). Additionally it takes less time to prepare and clean up so you have more ability to enjoy your home and family.

  • No cooking means you’ll never worry about burning your tongue again! This is much safer for young children who like to use their hands to eat.

  • No waste: All the ends and pieces from your raw food (but for meat) can go into composting.

  • Cooperative with organics: Most raw foodies gravitate to organically gardened food, which contains no chemical pesticides or fertilizers. That makes raw food diets environmentally sound, working with nature instead of against it.

  • Less need for kitchen gear: no buying pots and pans!

Add to that list the fact that raw foods have high levels of antioxidants.

These are powerful tools in fighting the free radicals that lead to heart disease and cancer.

Additionally, raw food helps keep you healthy during cold and flu season by supporting your immune system.

Note that as with any new diet protocol, raw food diets work best in conjunction with a sound exercise program and a healthy lifestyle. Anyone with pre-existing medical conditions should consult with their physician or nutritionist.
