There has been a growing buzz about wheatgrass and cancer research.

By itself wheatgrass is a very healthy addition to one’s diet. It has 13 vitamins and 30 enzymes, many of which are antioxidants.

Additionally, wheatgrass contains chlorophyll, which is very similarly structured to hemoglobin. This supports the body’s immune system.

What is Wheatgrass?

Also called couchgrass the scientific name for wheatgrass is Triticum aestivum. It’s native to Europe and the United states taking to temperate zones. The parts of wheatgrass most commonly used in herbal curatives are the roots and underground stems, and the grass itself for juicing

Consuming Wheatgrass for Health

The fresher wheatgrass is, the better. You will find it easiest to keep several containers growing at once, all at skightly different stages of growth. That way, as you finish one tray you always have another tray ready to use.

If you juice it, and consume some immediately then keep some aside for later in the fridge in a dark jar, that seems to work most effectively. Generally, however, the benefits of wheatgrass seem to decrease after four hours from harvest, and wheatgrass shouldn’t be mixed with water that hasn’t been filtered.
